Text Box: History :-
Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Karad was founded on August 7, 1986 to cater to the needs of higher education of women in Karad town and adjacent rural areas by Shikshan Mandal, Karad, a well-known educational society of Western Maharashtra. The society boasts of its illustrious existence of over hundred years dedicated to providing quality education rather than multipoint expression. It has provided good infrastructure, human resources and most importantly, leadership with vision. In view of the existing social matrix in the late 1980s the leadership of the Sanstha felt the need for a good women’s college on the city side of Krishna bridge, a separating divide between the city on one side and Vidyanagar, a higher education hub that had come up on the northern side of the bridge. Commuting from the city and adjacent rural areas across the river was becoming hazardous to the students in general and girl students in particular. Karad being one of the educationally vibrant tehsils, had a large population willing to educate their girl wards in higher education. Mahila Mahavidyalaya Karad fulfilled this need and continues to do a good service to the society even today.Along with social security, Mahila Mahavidyalaya provides quality higher education to girl students.
That women do differ in their psychological makeup and their learning priorities is undisputed. Many people doubted the launch of women’s college in an era of co-education. But the college not only survived but also flourished courtesy the courage and heroic work of the Sanstha, the diligence and hard of the teaching staff and inquisitive students. The efforts were blessed with success and the college progressed and earned permanent affiliation within eight years in 1994 and UGC listing soon followed in 1998. The college was accredited by NAAC with ‘B’ grade in 2004, re-accredited with ‘B’ grade in the year 2012 and B+ in 2018respectively. At the end of academic year 2016-17, college classrooms are equipped with ‘Interactive Digital Boards’ as well as Wi-Fi Internet connectivity. Answering the need for diversification, the college started B.Sc. programme and B.Com. (IT) course in 2022-23.The college has tried its best to keep pace with the needs of higher education by developing ICT facilities, good and adequate infrastructure, a library rich in books and e-resources, computer labs with latest facilities, state- of- art washrooms, and of course a number of skill development courses at very affordable costs to ensure financial empowerment. All these efforts are complemented with various activities that inculcate human values among the students.
